Getting Linux Up & Running

What You Need

SOPINE A64 Compute Module and Baseboard “MODEL A”
Power Supply That Provides 5V 2.0 Amps
A PC With A SD Card Reader
A Minimum 8GB MicroSD Card
Disk Imaging Utility Etcher (Linux/Windows/Mac)

Step 1 Preparation

If you have not already done so please download a Linux image of your choosing.

  • This is a build including DE based on longsleep works and may not have all the up-to-date features offered by longsleep and Sunxi community. For latest build, you can create one and following this thread
  • This build optimizes Gigabit Ethernet parameter and improves on GbE connectivity.
  • Included Mate Desktop, Firebox Browser, and LibreOffice Suite.
  • Included libvdpau-sunxi with SMPlayer.
  • Included with Wifi and Bluetooth.
  • Included library set that provides access to the GPIO headers in Linux as provided by community member KB3VGW (
  • Not yet optimize for Graphic acceleration
  • Suitable for Sopine only
  • Login with
    • username: ubuntu
    • password: ubuntu
  • Auto execute script on first boot-up to resize the root partition in order to fully utilize the SD Card
  • DD image (for 8GB and above SD Card):


    You will require Disk Imaging Utility Etcher (Linux/Windows/Mac) to write the image to your SD card. Download Etcher Linux/Windows/Mac version accordingly and install into your PC.

    Step 2 Imaging SD Card

    Let’s insert your MicroSD card into your PC/laptop card reader (may require micro to sd converter card) then proceed to use Etcher.

    You should see the following


    Now click on “Select image” to select the Linux image you previously downloaded.  Once selected, click “Select drive” select your SD card drive.  To burn the image to your SD card simply click on “Flash!”.

    Once the image has been written to your SD card be sure to close the application and to eject/remove your SD card safely from Windows/Linux/Mac.

    Step 3 Booting

    Now insert your SD card into the SOPINE A64 Compute Module follow by SOPINE Baseboard “MODEL A”, power it on by connecting the power adapter cable to the DC jack.

    Once booted, login with the provided credentials for the image downloaded.

    Note: for first-time users it is recommended that you connect your SOPINE Baseboard “MODEL A” to a TV/Monitor capable of 1080p resolutions as well as hook up an Ethernet cable to get direct access to the internet.
